History has been written in Mombasa’s Mbaraki Sport Grounds after Gor Mahia’s unbeaten start to the league came crashing in face of Bandari following a 2-1 defeat this Tuesday 7August
First half blows from Dan Guya and Yema Mwana proved all that was needed to snap K’Ogalo’s long-standing unbeaten streak.
The upset effected end to Gor’s jealously guarded streak that dated back October 2017 when Mathare last beat them in a league tie.
The tie came with its own billing as Gor Mahia’s league’s best offense came face off against Bandari’s best defense.
In anticipation, both sided made minimal changes with Gor’s Francis Mustafa handed a rare start to partner a returning Jacques Tuyisenge in attack.
Bernard Mwalala predictably kept faith in his proven back-four with Faruk Shikalo providing the safe hands in Dockers’ last line of defense.
Besides Faruk, Dan Guya had proved quite a revelation in the pair first leg meeting and he aptly started from where he left off by gifting Bandari an early advantage.
The versatile ace proved to be at the right spot to power home a corner from Joshua Oyoo 12 minutes in.
Dockers 2-0 up
Just past the half hour mark, the host, against all odds, doubled their lead. Yemi Mwana’s hard shot asking too much of Shaban Odhoji for a save.
The tone of the clash was set with Gor expected to come all out attack in the final half.
Harun Shakava and Francis Kahata got presented with chances but neither musht back.
Gor pulls one back
Jacques Tuyisenge got Gor’s breakthrough with just over ten minutes left. The tie was later set for a dramatic finale as Fred Nkata got dismissed moments afterwards.
A famous win for Bandari was to be confirmed as the host held out to see the end of a tensed five added minutes.
