BANDARI FOOTBALL CLUB
Bandari Football Club (Bandari FC) stands as one of Kenya’s most respected football institutions and the undisputed pride of the Coast region. Based in Mombasa and backed by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), the club has become a symbol of professionalism, unity, and sporting excellence — representing not only Mombasa but the entire coastline in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
Founded in the 1980s, Bandari began as a team for port workers — a recreational outlet that fostered teamwork and fitness among Kenya Ports Authority employees. However, the passion and talent displayed on the pitch quickly transformed the team into a competitive force in national football. With time, Bandari FC evolved from a workers’ team to a fully-fledged professional club, bringing pride to the Coast and inspiring generations of young players.
The club’s nickname, “The Dockers,” perfectly captures its spirit — hardworking, disciplined, and resilient. Like the dock workers who load and unload ships at Mombasa Port, Bandari’s players are known for their strength, teamwork, and determination. Their traditional blue colors represent the Indian Ocean, symbolizing calm strength and depth — much like the club itself.
Over the years, Bandari FC has made impressive strides both on and off the field. They have twice lifted the FKF Shield Cup (2015 and 2019) and won the Kenya Super Cup in 2019 after defeating Gor Mahia, one of Kenya’s most decorated clubs. These achievements earned Bandari the opportunity to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup, showcasing coastal football talent on the continental stage.
At the heart of Bandari’s success is its commitment to nurturing local talent. The Bandari Youth Academy is among the best in Kenya, offering structured training, education, and mentorship to young players from across the Coast region. Many academy graduates have gone on to feature in the senior team and even the national side, proving that with proper support, the Coast can produce elite football talent.
Mbaraki Sports Club, Bandari’s home ground, remains a fortress of coastal football passion. On matchdays, the stadium comes alive with blue-clad fans, drumming, singing, and chanting — creating an atmosphere unmatched anywhere in Kenya. The club’s matches are more than sporting events; they are community celebrations that bring people together across cultures and backgrounds.
Beyond football, Bandari FC plays a key role in community development. Through football clinics, outreach programs, and charity initiatives, the club continues to empower the youth and promote unity in the region. Their influence extends far beyond the pitch, proving that football can be a powerful tool for social transformation.
As Bandari FC looks to the future, its ambition is clear — to challenge for the Kenyan Premier League title and continue elevating coastal football. With a strong foundation, stable management, and passionate fans, the Dockers are well-positioned to achieve even greater success.
Bandari FC isn’t just a football club — it’s the heartbeat of Mombasa, the pride of the Coast, and a true symbol of resilience and hope in Kenyan football.
